Our customer’s startup idea was to disrupt the usual business in the produce industry by introducing a digital marketplace between growers and buyers. It was crucial to act quickly, and our team focused on delivering digital solutions for the business team before the critical deadlines. Within the first one and a half months, the team created serverless public data parsers and used the data to implement sophisticated price charts and landing pages that the customer successfully used as marketing materials for the new product. Later on, the team continued working on the actual marketplace product having scalability in mind. Microsoft Azure services are actively used in the project, including Azure Search for searching on the marketplace, Azure Blob Storage, to store lots of headering images and others. We have also configured Azure DevOps CI/CD to reduce the dev cycles and accelerate the pace of development which is critical for this startup.
The customer's team consisted of seasoned experts in the produce industry, who were wellaware of what the industry needed to move away from the old-fashioned method of finding counterparts through a phone book. They also had excellent ideas on how to market their idea using free tools based on USDA pricing data. However, they lacked the technical expertise needed to implement such a solution.
Gaining traction was crucial in the early stages and our team began implementing serverless public data parsers with Azure Functions and building fancy charts with d3.js. As the project progressed, our focus shifted towards the actual marketplace product, with scalability as a primary consideration. We have developed search and sophisticated filtering functionality using Azure Cognitive Search. To bring added value to the solution, we have integrated multiple different third-party tools such as SendGrid, AccuWeather, Twilio Conversations, AuthO, Stripe and more.
